Keystone Kids Go Resources

Keystone Kids Go partner resources are focused on improving young children’s nutrition and physical activity. These resources are geared towards early childhood practitioners from childcare, Head Start, early intervention, family literacy, and pre-Kindergarten programs.

Featured Resource - Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Story Map

The Pennsylvania Department of Health, State Physical Activity and Nutrition (SPAN) Program and Keystone Kids Go work-group aims to support early childhood education programs that currently participate in CACFP and encourage more eligible programs to participate in an effort to increase access to nutritious meals and snacks and curb disparities in food access across Pennsylvania. The SPAN program implements early childhood education strategies to prevent childhood obesity. This map examines current CACFP participation in the context of food access and poverty.

Resources to Inspire Nature-based Play in Early Learning!

If you are seeking creative ideas for bringing the outside in and the inside out, in addition to the research of why nature-based play is so important for both young children and adults, be sure to check out our Nature-Based resources page!

Children at Monica Wince's Family Child Care Home enjoy outdoor play in the rain, sunshine, or snow with their "Muddy Buddy" all-in-one rain suits! In the photo, the kids are enjoying making ice soup and nature soup (a blend of spices, sand, pine cones and twigs!)  in their homemade mud kitchen!

  • Chant it! This portion of the newsletter focuses on a song, chant, or finger play, and reinforces reading skills. Many of the chants focus on a Choosy Kids song. Choosy™ is a fun character in the IMIL program who helps adults to be active play partners with children. Choosy™stands for Choose Healthy Options Often and Start Young®!
  • Move it! This section introduces fun and simple physical activities that can easily be done without a lot of materials. The IMIL program helps you to make memories by playing together. Choosy™says "YOU are your child's favorite toy. Remember your child really loves to play with YOU!"
